Well, since my good bud Alain, has shared his latest progress pics, i might as well too!

This is what i've been doing in the last couple of nights on no 3

Filled the gaps and sanded the sides with my awesome tool given to me by my bud Ron



Look at that space, i'm sooo happy!



The pics above were taken last night, tonight, i started working on my neck so i resawed my mahogany block in 2 pieces and the 2 halves came out almost perfect...





A couple of passes at 1/64th " and they are ready for the glue up



Made ref.marks on all the edges to remember to alternate one of the pieces so that the tension/stress will eliminate itself if i make any sense...







And finally, a plank of maple i'd like to use as a center strip for the neck

Great photos as usual Serge! The shops looking good.So you like the new pneumatic sander eh? I've had mine a while now and love it. I bought a small football air pump for it.My compressor would explode it ! It;s great for neck sanding too.

Thanks Dave, yeah i'll bet that carving a neck with that tool must not be taking long, i know i had to be extra careful with the sides that were already thin prior to sanding! I think i will get me a football air pump too!

Thanks Rod, i was more thinking of thinning it a bit actually but what would you say would be the right thickness bud? How wide to look good? 1/4" ?.

If it were me.....I'd probably make it 3/16" but no more. But that's me.

You've ripped the mahogany down already right?

Sorry to give late suggestion but I would have cut the mahogany into 3 pieces and had the laminate go mahogany, maple, mahogany, maple, mahogany. With the maple being about 1/8" thick and the center strip of mahogany being about 3/4-1" thick.

It's all good Rod, i had a vision of a wider maple center strip in my mind when i started cutting the mahog block so i'll probably just sand down each face of the board and make a few passes on the jointer/edger, i'll let the inspiration guide me on this me thinks! Thanks bud!

Keep at it Serge, it's looking good. Boy that white ash sure is purty isn't it!

That looks great my friend! I think that neck will look great no matter what you decide, but I'll echo brother Rod's suggestion of a souble maple lam... That would really rock!

Thanks Alain, it's a bit too late for me to insert a double maple lamination since i already cut the plank in half but i will thin my maple plank to 3/16" or resaw a couple more slices from that plank and make a triple maple lam, will check the possibilities over the week end!

Ok, here's pics of my cocobolo plank that i want to use as bridge, fretboard and headstock veneers





in this pic, i put the mahogany and a sample of maple close to the box and coco to better see what it will look like, tell me what you think please

Hi Bro, thanks, the light doesn't give justice to that plank and i also forgot to put some water at least on the plank to at least show the grain. but i think it will look great with the mahog and maple lammed neck! Line got a bran new dough roller yesterdy, just in time for the week end pies!

Serge how about taking that maple to 3/16 and putting a black fibre/ebony layer either side to define it and match the bindings?

Colin, i thought about it but didn't have any of that stuff on hand and couldn't wait so i proceeded with the maple center only. Anyways, i think it will still look ok, just different than what we're used to see on here!

This is what i've done tonight, i've prepared the mahog and maple planks for the glue up of 2 neck blanks ie for no 3 and no 4 which is on the drawing board AND BTW is officially started (modified O-18 ). I also resawed my coco plank that will be used for fretboard, bridge and headplate veneer. I think i'll be using tiny strips of maple as purfs on the fretboard and headstock

I thicknessed the maple plank and inner surfaces of the mahogany on the jointer ...



Sandwiched them up real tight...quite messy!



Here's my coco plank fresly sliced in half to wich i added water to better see the grain pop up.

Yeah, the cocobolo appointments are going to look very good, especially when you get some finish on that ash. It's gonna glow!

Oh, and mmmmmmm, pie!

If it's not too late Serge , I would urge you to make the Laminate wider than your trussrod slot .
